PCR Lab
In this lab the class did a PCR lab. A PCR lab is Polymerase Chain Reaction and it is used to amplify a single piece DNA. I also wrote a Lab Report that explains all the things we did in this lab and all the problems . This was our first lab and there was several mistakes. Overall, if we did this lab again I think it would go better than this time.

Species Timeline
For this Species Timeline it was a partner project. My partner and I chose to research the horse. We had to chose a living organism to research and try to find the details of their ancestry.
Cladogram
For the Cladogram it was a group project. We were given hardware and we had to separate them into groups based on their traits. We separated them by plastics and metal then by color and then my their traits. Our group put them on a piece of paper and made species names for all of the groups. The names had to be Latin or sound Latin so we chose to translate them to Swahili. Then, we wrote a story about how they evolved and why.
Content
Natural Selection= allowing certain mutation to become more dominant and killing off the disadvantage traits Variation, competition, survival, and reproduction
Allopatric Speciation= one species that evolves separately
Sympatric Speciation= one species that evolves together
Reproductive Isolation= when species can not mate because they are too different
Geographic Isolation= physical obstacle prevents gene flow between population
Temporal Isolation= when there is different times of mating so they can not mate
Behavioral= different mating rituals prevent the mating
Reflection
Overall, the cladogram was kind of hard. We really didn't know how to work together because everything was new. I think I could have worked more and should have asked more questions when I didn't understand something. Overall, I learned that we could have spend more time rehearsing the presentation because we pretty much winged it and that was not a good idea. For the timeline I think my partner and I could have done a little more research. But overall I learned that having more information is better. Lastly, the lab write up was difficult because we didn't have enough data. I did my best on the PCR lab and since it was my first lab write up I will learn how to write better ones in the future.
I worked on this project with Addison Deal, Juan Castaneda, and Grant Fehring.
